New stadium grooves!
Since moving to Salt Lake City, I've finished four new stadium grooves. I also put together
recordings, scores, and tapoffs for three street beat excerpts that intuitively double as stadium grooves.
So much content!!! Find some time to head over to the Cadences and Grooves
page and give this stuff a listen. I know I haven't done much with the "Licks" section of the site, and the annotated NCSU exercise
packet is barely started... I'll be getting on that stuff in the near future; I promise!
Cheers.

New cadence and personal news
The first piece I've written on my new iMac is a street beat
called Pusher, including parts for differently-sized
bass drum lines and a sweet VDL recording. I've named it after my favourite X-Files villain,
Robert Patrick Modell, or "Pusher": a contract killer who used mind control to drive his victims to suicide. If
you have a Netflix subscription, check out the episodes "Pusher" from Season 3 and "Kitsunegari" from
Season 5.
But now for the good news: I have been offered a research assistantship by the University
of Utah's Applied Nanomaterials Lab, so I will be moving to Salt Lake City, UT, in August to begin
pursuing a PhD in chemical engineering. Now go check out my new cadence!

VDL Recordings
Having updated to Finale 2009, I am now able to
make recordings using VDLite (a stripped-down Virtual Drumline). I have
already re-done the recordings for the seven street
beats on this site, so check those out. They sound much better and more
authentic than the audio files generated with Finale 2005.
There will be more to come soon. Enjoy!

Resurrected!
Welcome to the new fatmattdrums.com! The bulk
of this site is "quite operational" with plenty of street beats,
warm-ups, exercises, and stadium grooves. There aren't any
Licks or Additional Resources posted yet, but those
sections of the site will be built in the future.
I will continue to work on the annotated
exercise packet in the coming days, and will hopefully be able to
start posting some snare drum licks soon. For now, enjoy what's
already up.
Cheers.
